Four UAE Domestic Worker Recruitment Agencies Shut Down and Fined Dh50,000 for Operating Without a License
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has taken action against four Al Ain-based recruitment agencies for operating without the necessary license, sealing their premises and imposing fines of Dh50,000 on each. The Department of Economic Development has affixed 'closure' signs on the doors of these agencies.
The ministry has arranged temporary accommodation for the affected domestic workers, who have consented to their transfer to MoHRE-approved recruitment establishments.
During a joint inspection campaign conducted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, Port Security, and the Department of Economic Development in the Abu Dhabi - Al Ain branch two weeks ago, four recruitment agencies were discovered operating without a license. As a result, these agencies have been penalized by MoHRE.
Since 2022, a total of 45 recruitment establishments and domestic worker agencies have faced penalties for operating without licenses. In December of the previous year, a federal law was enacted to regulate the employment of domestic workers. This law mandates that both Emiratis and expatriates must exclusively engage with MoHRE-approved domestic worker recruitment agencies, which are listed on the ministry's website.
Recently, the ministry revoked the licenses of two domestic worker recruitment agencies, Shamma Al Mahairi Domestic Workers Services Centre in Dubai and Al Barq Domestic Workers Services Centre LLC in Ajman, due to their failure to comply with regulations.
